Trumpeter Allen Vizzutti Headlines 44th Annual SWOSU Jazz Festival
Legendary trumpeter Allen Vizzutti will headline the 44th annual SWOSU Jazz Festival, presented by the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Music, on Thursday and Friday, February 6 and 7, on the Weatherford campus.
Yamaha artist Allen Vizzutti has visited over 60 countries and every state in the union to perform with a rainbow of artists and ensembles as both a classical and jazz artist. He has appeared as guest soloist with symphony orchestras, in recital, on television and in jazz venues around the world.
The main concerts are planned for Friday, February 7, at 1 and 8 p.m. featuring Vizzutti who will be accompanied by Portland based pianist Darrell Grant, Yamaha drum artist Steve Hatfield, and University of North Texas bass professor Lynn Seaton. The concerts in the Fine Arts Center will also feature the SWOSU Jazz “A” ensemble. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for students. The professional group of musicians will also be on hand to give master classes that day.
A free concert involving the guest artists will be held Thursday, February 6, at 7 p.m. in the Music Building’s Berrong Recital Hall. Seating is limited for the event will be given on a first come basis.
Also, the Weatherford Arts Council has collaborated with the Department of Music for a special “Jazz with Pizzazz!”dinner prior to the Friday 8 p.m. show.
