Sayre Campus Facilitates OPAL Workshop
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Sayre campus recently hosted a workshop on potential pipeline safety issues for the Oklahoma Pipeline Awareness Liaison (OPAL).
OPAL is a member organization of pipeline operators dedicated to promoting pipeline safety and awareness in our state.
The certification workshop included employees from energy companies involved in pipeline safety, emergency and first-responder personnel from area fire departments, and other public officials. Larin Antilla, a veteran OPAL workshop leader, facilitated the event.
More than 45 attendees discussed the United States’ pipeline network, the largest in the world, and the dangers from damage or disruption to the pipeline. The workshop guided emergency personnel through topics such as assessing the dangers, protecting the public, and working with pipeline operators.
SWOSU’s Sayre campus stands ready to serve as a community resource for meetings, workshops and other events. For more information, call 580.28.5533.
