Holgado Named Chair of Biological Sciences at SWOSU
Dr. Andrea Holgado was recently named chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Holgado joined SWOSU’s biology faculty in 2008, and prior to then, taught biology at Loyola University in Chicago.
She was born and raised in Cordoba, Argentina. She received Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Biology Education as well as a Ph. D. in Biology at the National University of Cordoba, the oldest university in Argentina. After completing her doctorate, Holgado and her family immigrated to the United States, and she completed postdoctoral work in neuroscience at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
At SWOSU, Holgado is active in promoting undergraduate research, establishing collaborations with colleagues at research-intensive institutions throughout Oklahoma and using pilot project funding from the Oklahoma Institutional Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) to secure over $1 million to develop the SWOSU Neuroscience Laboratory.
Holgado and her husband, Claudio, live in Weatherford with her son, Ramiro, and daughter, Camila.
Holgado’s appointment to chair is effective June 1.
