Safe Kids Oklahoma Event Planned Saturday at SWOSU

March 27, 2014

Safe Kids Oklahoma will be on the Weatherford campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University this Saturday, March 29, conducting free car seat installation sessions.

The event is in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center and runs from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Everyone is invited, and kids are welcome. Local police and fire departments will have emergency vehicles on sites for kids to tour, according to center director Nathan Smith.

According to Safe Kids Oklahoma, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death and injury to children under the age of 14, and 4 of every 5 car seats are installed or used incorrectly. Safe Kids Oklahoma will have nationally certified technicians on hand to teach guardians how to properly install and use car seats.

Smith said new car seats will be available at a reduced cost for those who qualify. Individuals must bring proof of assistance (WIC, TANF, etc.), be the legal guardian of the child, the child must be present or within 8 weeks of the due date, and have the vehicle most often used as transportation.
