SWOSU Plans Dawg Days for Students
August 11, 2014
Southwestern Oklahoma State University is preparing for the start of the fall semester and “Dawg Days” activities are planned to welcome back students. Classes begin Wednesday, August 20.
SWOSU Dean of Students Cindy Dougherty said Dawg Days is designed to introduce students to the non-academic side of college, and the activities give everyone a chance to reconnect and meet new friends.
Dawg Days start Saturday, August 16, with Residence Life Move-In Day. Residence hall students may begin checking into rooms at 9 a.m. Later Saturday night, Project Blue will be held in the Wellness Center. From 7-9 p.m., Project Blue includes free food, carnival games and giveaways.
Activities continue Sunday, August 17, with the annual Oozeball tournament and Student Government Association open house. Both beginning at 5 p.m. on the corners of College and Broadway Streets, students play “ooze” volleyball in the water-filled courts while SGA serves free hotdogs and gives tours of the SGA Center.
On Monday, students are invited to donate blood at a blood drive sponsored by the Oklahoma Blood Institute and SWOSU’s Collegiate Activities Board. OBI’s mobile units will be parked by the Clock Tower from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Tuesday brings Mass Orientation for all new, incoming students at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. All students are invited to the annual Bingo Night at 6 p.m. in the University Grill. There will be free popcorn and many prizes for all bingo winners.
Residence Life hosts the Back-to-School Block Party Thursday at 5 p.m. with free food, games, and live music on the South Lawn of Memorial Student Union. At 9 p.m., the party moves inside for a dance in the University Grill.
Students can go bowling for free from 5-10 p.m. on Friday at Southwestern Lanes in Weatherford. Bowlers must present a valid SWOSU student I.D. to receive the discount.
