Mission to Planet Earth Institute
SWOSU students Aaron Bushong (third from left) of Shawnee and Lauren Robinson (fourth from left) of Weatherford have been selected to attend the Mission to Planet Earth summer institute hosted by the Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium. Assisting the pair were SWOSU employees (from left) Bruce Belanger, Madeline Baugher and Sherri Brogdon.

Two Department of Education students from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford will attend the Mission to Planet Earth summer institute, hosted by the Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium.

Aaron Bushong of Shawnee, and Lauren Robinson of Weatherford will spend 11 days at the institute in Norman designed to prepare teachers to motivate students with hands-on science, technology, engineering and math curriculum.

In addition to the summer institute, Bushong and Robinson will attend a weekend “teaching with an iPad” seminar and a four-day trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Center during the coming school year. This institute will enable the participants to enhance their teaching by aligning the motivational activities with the national and state standard curriculum.

Computer Science Program Director Madeline Baugher, DOE Coordinator of Field Experiences Bruce Belanger and DOE Assistant Professor Sherri Brogdon assisted the students through the application process.
