Todd Earp (left) and Wes Warren (right) were recent co-winners of the John Hays LeaderServant Award presented by the Leadership Weatherford program. The two are with the award’s namesake, Dr. John Hays.

Wes Warren, who is administrator of the Cedar Canyon Adventure Program at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, was recently co-winner of the John Hays LeaderServant Award presented by the Leadership Weatherford program.

Warren and Todd Earp, assistant director of parks and recreation for the City of Weatherford, were presented the award that is named after Dr. John Hays, past president of SWOSU and instrumental in the development of the Leadership Weatherford program that just graduated Class 17.

The John Hays LeaderServant Award is voted on secretly throughout the year by the Leadership Weatherford class and is designed to select the one among them who is the best at both leading and serving.

Leadership Weatherford allows class members to spend one day each month covering topics such as economic development, civic engagement, legal issues, team building and leadership skills.  Chair of Leadership Weatherford is Cindy Dougherty, dean of students at SWOSU.

The program is sponsored by the Weatherford Economic Development Foundation, SWOSU and Midwestern Oklahoma Development Authority and is part of the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce.

Dougherty said the program continues to grow, and the Leadership Weatherford Committee has 117 nominees for 15 spots in the 2015-16 class.
