Arts Academy Coming to SWOSU
The Weatherford Arts Council is hosting its 23rd annual Weatherford Arts Academy on July 25-29 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Director Jeanine Berrong said the academy quickly fills up each year and a waiting list is full of names. Sixty 1st-8th grade students will attend activities in the SWOSU Memorial Student Center Ballroom, Art Building, Music Building and Hilltop Theatre.
The 3rd through 8th graders, which consist of 48 children, will attend the academy from 1-5 p.m. throughout the week. They will enjoy special presentations from artists and performers as well as participate in activities such as playing the guitar, acting, ballroom dancing and pottery.
The 1st and 2nd graders, which consist of 12 children, will have their activities from 9-11:30 a.m. throughout the week. They will participate in the same activities as the older students but will play violin instead of guitar. They will also learn all about the sea through crafts, songs and games.
On the final day of the academy on Friday, July 29, parents, friends and the general public are invited to see a final presentation by the students at the SWOSU Memorial Student Center Ballroom from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m.
