SWOSU Observing Campus Safety Awareness Month

09.08.2016

Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford is observing Campus Safety Awareness Month during the month of September.

Cindy Dougherty, dean of students and Title IX coordinator, said four large rolling story boards are being used across campus to promote all types of safety. She said there will be lectures and discussions throughout the month on all kinds of issues such as human sexuality, harassment and discrimination.  Many topics will relate to Title IX issues, CampusSAVE Act, Violence Against Women Act and much more.

“Continuing to raise awareness on relevant issues is a great way to keep SWOSU a safe campus. We are in the top 3% of the nation’s safest campuses,” said Jordan Selman, director of activities and organizations and the safety month’s coordinator.  “Beginning the academic year with Campus Safety Awareness Month is a great opportunity to focus on safety and making good decisions.”

This is the second time the university has observed safety awareness month.
