POWER Summit Planned November 4 at SWOSU

A POWER Summit for women is planned November 4 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Powerful Oklahoma Women Exploring Shared Resources Summit is being co-hosted by the SWOSU Business Enterprise Center and the Everett Dobson School of Business & Technology at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.

The POWER Summit is aimed at helping women who would like to advance their careers as well as those currently working in management positions, according to Dr. Patsy Parker, associate dean of the School of Business & Technology.

A keynote session featuring Carolyn Stager, breakout sessions and door prizes are on slate for the day.

Stager recently completed a 29-year career with the Oklahoma Municipal League. During her last eight years, she served as executive director and was the first female to serve in that capacity. She is also founder and co-owner of Stick it in Stones, Inc. (SIIS), an Oklahoma company established in 1997 specializing in state seal jewelry and currently doing business in over 25 states.

In 1999, Stager suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of a massive F-5 tornado that struck central Oklahoma.   She collaborated in writing a book with Kimberly Suiters about her survival and eventual triumph over the disaster and its effects.  Twist of Faith was released in 2009.  Carolyn continues to inspire others with her story of faith and restoration.

Breakout sessions planned during the day include:

  • Dealing with Difficult People—Cindy Dougherty
  • Conflict and Camaraderie—Patsy Parker
  • Maximizing Situational Awareness in the Workplace—Cindi Albrightson
  • Recent Developments in Ethics—Raygan Chain
  • Developing Your Personal Brand—Amanda Evert
  • Maximizing Situational Awareness in the Workplace—Lori Gwyn
  • Cultivating Effective Performance Management Systems—Jonna Myers

Cost is $149, which includes lunch. The keynote will begin at 9 a.m. with breakout sessions planned at 10:30, 11:30, 1 and 2 p.m.  To register, call co-director Leia Moore in the BEC at 580.774.7127 or co-director Jonna Myers at 580.774.7186.
