Hot Dog Sale Planned Saturday in Elk City to Support Veterans

The Veterans Education Taskforce (VETS) at Southwestern Oklahoma State University invites area residents to their first fundraiser event—VETS Hot Dog Sale—this Saturday March 25, at the Elk City Atwood’s, located at 2901 S. Main Street.

The event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. will benefit veterans, reservists and military dependent college students of SWOSU.  VETS will be asking for a minimum donation of $1 for a hot dog, and $1 for a drink. They will offer a “VETS Hot Dog Special”, which consist of two hot dogs and a drink for a minimum donation of $2.50.

“This is our first fundraising event, and we are planning on doing many more to accomplish our fundraising goals”, said VETS Faculty Advisor Ferrell Gordon. “With the support of our communities, we anticipate that our first fundraiser will be a complete success.”

VETS was founded in January of this year. The organization has three main purposes for veterans:

  • assist with transition to the college environment and civilian life
  • to provide assistance in the process of obtaining earned veterans benefits
  • provide financial, medical, and mental health resources to members struggling to adapt to civilian life
