Thirteen SWOSU Students will compete for the title of Miss SWOSU 2018 on Saturday, October 28, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center on the Weatherford campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Contestants are:

Terin Brownen of Weatherford is a junior majoring in mathematics, finance and accounting. For the talent competition, she plans to play the piano “Midnight Rhapsody”. Her platform issue is Increasing Women in STEM.

Melissa Valencia of Marlow is a freshman majoring in communications. For the talent competition, she plans to sing a classical opera “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”. Her platform issue is Speak for the Silent, Stand for the Broken.

Denise Anderson of Elgin is a sophomore majoring in chemistry. For the talent competition, she plans to Jazz dance to “Sax”. Her platform issue is Ending Pet Homelessness.

Ashlin Murray of Weatherford (Clinton) is a freshman majoring in political science. For the talent competition, she plans to sing vocal to “Der Holle Rache”. Her platform issue is Fostering the Future.

Shelby Austin of Tulsa (Oklahoma Virtual) is a senior majoring in health sciences. For the talent competition, she plans to ballet dance to “Sleeping Beauty Waltz”.  Her platform issue is Arts Education Outreach.

Kendra Place of Washington is a junior majoring in communications-theatre. For the talent competition, she plans to sing a musical theatre “A Part of Your World”.  Her platform issue is Arts in Education.

Amanda Jantz of Enid (Chisholm) is a junior majoring in early childhood education. For the talent competition, she plans to do a baton rhythmic twirl to “I Can Only Imagine”. Her platform issue is Consequences of Peer Pressure.

Mikayla Schane of Newcastle is a sophomore majoring in elementary education. For the talent competition, she plans to do a monologue to “Ile”.  Her platform issue is Raising Awareness for National Water Crisis.

Cassandra Purintun of Hinton is a sophomore majoring in finance. For the talent competition, she plans to sing a pop vocal to “Colors of the Wind”.  Her platform issue is Giving Generosity Gracefully.

Makenna Carver of Bartlesville (Dewey) is a sophomore majoring in nursing. For the talent competition, she plans to tap dance to “The Cup Song”.  Her platform issue is Fighting to End Alzheimer’s.

Amy Freeman of Clinton (Corn Bible Academy) is a freshman majoring in communications. For the talent competition, she plans to sing “It is Well”.  Her platform issue is No One Goes Hungry.

Jimmie Dollins of Altus is a freshman majoring in health sciences. For the talent competition, she plans to do a gymnastics routine to “Warrior”.  Her platform issue is Have No Fear, Get in Gear, and Get Involved.

Mykinzy Diggs of Marietta is a junior majoring in pharmacy. For the talent competition, she plans to do sing a classical “The Beauty is”.  Her platform issue is Uniquely Me: Movement for Self-Esteem.

Former Miss SWOSU and Miss Oklahoma finalist Alison Baker will serve as mistress of ceremonies. Entertainers for the pageant are Miss Oklahoma Triana Browne 2017, students from Kendi’s School of Dance, current Miss SWOSU Jordan Caulkins of Weatherford and Miss SWOSU’s Outstanding Teen Kaelin Clay of Idabel.

Advance tickets are $10 for non-SWOSU students and $5 for SWOSU students.  All tickets at the door are $20. Advance tickets are available in Room 205 of the SWOSU Administration Building and from all contestants.
