SWOSU Intramural Football Team Competes at Regional Tourney

A SWOSU intramural football team—Happy Campers—competed this past weekend at the National Intercollegiate Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Regional Championship in Lincoln (NE).

The Happy Campers have won the past four SWOSU Flag Football Championships and have gone undefeated all four years on the Weatherford campus.

With that record, the Happy Campers had the opportunity to travel to the University of Nebraska to play in the NIRSA Regional Championship, which featured approximately 40 teams. The winner of the NIRSA Regional Championship would advance and have the chance to compete in the national tournament in Pensacola (FL).

On Saturday, the Happy Campers competed in pool play and played two games. In their first game, they took their first loss in four years, narrowly losing 32-28 to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Basket of Deplorables.  In the second game, the Happy Campers demolished a team from Creighton University, 60-6.

The Happy Campers advanced to the single elimination round of 16 and were seeded #7 overall. They played #10 seed United from Northern Iowa University and lost 38-7.

The Happy Campers are the first team from SWOSU to compete in the NIRSA Regional Championship.

The Happy Campers team is comprised of Marshall Wallace, Zane Rulon, Seth Odam, Tate Odam, Colby Bricker, Asher Baade, Bryce Birt, Hayden Hines, Jaxon Thomas, Brady Kulbeth, and Blake Schneberger. Chase Lott and Jake Zickefoose are also on the team, but did not travel to Lincoln. Nick Yates traveled with the team as the photographer/videographer.
