Hennessey Senior Wins Digital Graphic Art Contest at SWOSU

Hennessey High School student Mirian Ortega recently won a digital graphic art contest for high school seniors at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

The contest was part of a workshop being held at SWOSU. Ortega won a $1,000 scholarship from the SWOSU Foundation and a Wacom tablet from the Department of Art, Communication and Theatre.

The contestants drew their design on paper and transformed their drawing to a digital format by scanning. They were required to use Adobe Photoshop software and digital pen to create digital graphic arts.

Judges for the contest were Dr. Joel Kendall, chair of the Department of Art, Communication and Theatre; Jason Dupree, director of SWOSU Libraries; Masha Carman, instructor in the Department of Art, Communication and Theatre; Kyle Wright, SWOSU graphic designer; and John Herring, a senior graphic design student.

At the workshop, Peters and Herring demonstrated how to use the Adobe Photoshop and digital pen on a Macintosh computer.
