R.N. to B.S.N. Program
Registered Nurse Students
Southwestern Oklahoma State University admits registered nurses (RNs), from either diploma or associate degrees in nursing programs who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The RN student may receive credit through advanced standing for 31 hours of upper division coursework. Advanced standing may be accomplished through either Articulation or Challenge Examinations. All RN students must meet University admission requirements. Faculty believe the RN student has demonstrated adequate knowledge of pre-professional course to obtain either an associate degree or a diploma in nursing. Therefore, the faculty believe that the RN student need not be constrained by the prescriptive schedule designed for the generic student. The RN student's education is facilitated by allowing the student to take pre-professional courses at any time and in any sequence prior to graduation.
RN Student Application and Selection
The RN student may make application for admission to the nursing program anytime after official admission to the University. Criteria for admission to the nursing RN to BSN program include a retention GPA of 2.25 (on a 4.0 scale) for all previous college/university work and current valid Oklahoma RN licensure.
After acceptance into the nursing program, the student plans the completion of the B.S. in Nursing degree with an assigned nursing faculty advisor. RNs may take pre-professional courses in any sequence with the exception of N4512W Bridging Nursing Paradigms. A grade of "C" must be achieved in certain pre-professional courses. A student may receive advanced standing for any course in the lower division except N4512W Bridging Nursing Paradigms. The RN must complete the degree within five (5) years following acceptance into the nursing program.
Online Delivery
The nursing classes are delivered in an online format. The courses are designed and delivered using Desire2Learn on the World Wide Web. Students communicate with faculty and other students through online discussions and e-mail and submit assignments online. (Recommended Computer Requirements for Online Courses)
