Griffin Pharmacy provides a relaxed inpatient environment where the student can learn about the different aspects of psychiatric medicine. The student will be directly involved with the administrative, dispensing, and educational duties of a practicing pharmacist. Some of the projects and experiences a student might expect are as follows:
- Dispensing medication to meet the psychiatric and medical needs for inpatients and outpatients.
- Monitoring drug therapy for psychiatric patients
- Helping develop policies and procedures for a psychiatric hospital.
- Providing nursing and patient medication in-services
- Providing medication education for patient discharge
- Help develop dosing protocols for pediatric patients
- Help develop protocols for monitoring labs based on medication therapy
- Help design QA programs
- Do QA audits
- Provide drug information to medical and nursing staff
