Jackson County Memorial Hospital
Altus
This selective site offers the pharmacy student the opportunity to experience a combination of consulting pharmacy and the administrative aspects of hospital pharmacy rolled into one rotation. The skilled unit at JCMH consists of 25 beds which are housed in one wing of the hospital. The pharmacists at JCMH review charts weekly, assess patient progress, make recommendations for changes in drug therapy for patients in the skilled unit. Pharmacists work closely with other health care providers at the skilled unit, including nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and physicians. Pharmacy provides in-service training for many of the employees.
The administrative aspects of hospital pharmacy is another area available for students to experience at JCMH. Students will participate in committee work and other special projects with the pharmacy staff. Some of the activities include work for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, Quality Assurance committee, and drug information projects.
In addition to the selective opportunity at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, students can also complete a traditional institutional rotation at the hospital. A community pharmacy rotation is available in Altus, as well, at Bunker Hill United Drug.
