Kings Compounding Pharmacy offers a student a very practical site for retail pharmacy practice. We have two primary focuses in our setting that are closely intertwined. Close to 20 years ago we joined PCCA of Houston and began compounding in earnest. At the time we were centered in the growing medical community surrounded by pediatricians. We currently have a pediatric intensivist in our complex who challenges us regularly with his patient needs. Other areas in which we excel in compounding is in hormone, wound and pain therapy. Many physicians refer to us for evaluation and recommendations for prescriptions. We are capable of compounding sterile and non-sterile meeting the new USP 797 standards. We were also the first (and still the only) PCAB (Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board) accredited pharmacy in the panhandle of Texas.
Our second focus in health care is hospice. We have been a primary provider for medication needs for a hospice company for over 15 years. Hospice challenges are diverse and frequently immediate. The patient care that they offer is certainly instructional to anyone interested in health care.
Compounding is a primary focus but we are not a compounding only pharmacy. We try to seek out the hard to find health care items. We have a reputation for problem solving that is totally unrelated to compounding. We accept one Medicare Prescription Plan and Texas Medicaid and still have a little cash business. You will find a busy pharmacy but not because of prescription numbers.
