This unique practice environment will allow a student to experience many of the activities involved with providing pharmaceutical care in a long-term care environment. Two full time pharmacists at OVC work closely with other health care providers, physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and laboratory personnel in a team approach to patient care. In addition to the usual dispensing functions, pharmacists here are responsible for checking cart fills, IV admixture, and supervision of drug storage in a large, multi-unit facility. Some of the special activities include: involvement in team patient care meetings, medication use assessment, and patient care rounds.
