Prescription Solutions was founded in 1993 by pharmacists for managed care. Pharmacists still lead our company. This gives us a rather unique point-of-view in our industry. Rotation Experience Learning Objectives
The goal of this managed care pharmacy rotation at Prescription Solutions is to provide the student with adequate exposure to our unique site and a broad overview of the role of a managed care pharmacist with an emphasis on producing high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused pharmacy benefit. Specifically, the student will rotate through various departments and work with preceptors and other members of the Prescription Solutions team. In addition, various projects will be assigned to help the student apply their knowledge to the managed care pharmacy setting. The projects will be graded and used to determine the student’s overall grade for this rotation. Further assessment and evaluation will be provided to give the student feedback on their performance throughout the rotation. Moreover, important aims of this rotation are that the student learns from this experience and feels a part of the team.
During this rotation, the student will participate in the following activities to meet the corresponding key objectives:
- Preceptor Interviews
- To learn about the role of our pharmacists
- Managed Care Worksheet/Assessment
- To become familiar with managed care and Medicare Part D terminology and their applicability
- Journal Club
- To understand the importance of evidence-based medicine and its role in this setting
- Observation of various departments and case studies
- To understand the prior authorization process
- Develop educational materials necessary to conduct an In-Service
- To enhance presentation skills and learn how to communicate effectively to other health care professionals
