Rotation Selection Process and Rotation Information

Pharm. D. Professional Experience is an integral part of our curriculum.  It will be necessary for many of you to accept the inconvenience of re-locating.

Selection Process

Location

You will be given a form to complete the semester prior to rotations that allows you to request your primary choice for the base city; Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Muskogee, or Lawton.

From the requests, Dr. Cox will assign your city base and notify you of such by e-mail.

Informational Meeting (required attendance)

After receiving your city-base assignment, you will be asked to submit a request for selective rotations. The informational meeting (required attendance)  allows you the opportunity to gather additional information for making your decision.

You will then compete a form to request a General Selective rotation (Selective A) and a Medicine Selective rotation (Selective B) that are available in the area of your base city. Making a request does not mean you will be assigned your chosen area of interest.

You should go to the College of Pharmacy home page before the Informational Meeting to review the various forms that will be required for the selection process and practice semesters. Copies of the forms will be provided at the meeting.

You should also review the descriptions of the various selective rotation site options.

Selective Assignments

Dr. Cox will make every effort to fulfill your selective requests. Keep in mind that many factors might affect their availability: i.e., faculty numbers, other student requests, limitations of space and personnel at sites, etc.

You will be notified of your assignments before the end of the semester prior to starting rotations (including which block of rotations you have the first semester). There will be a Briefing Meeting (required attendance) at the end of the that semester to provide instructions, forms and deadlines you must meet to begin rotations

Rotation Information

Each Student will complete applications for two semesters of Professional Experience Rotations.

The student will be assigned to eight (8) professional experiences each lasting four (4) weeks.

The practice rotations are organized into two blocks of the following combinations:

5954

Medicine A

5974

The Communities A & B, Institutional, and Medicines A, B, & C rotations are assigned by Dr. Cox. They are intended to address the same basic educational and experience aspects regardless of the site. Therefore, you DO NOT submit requests for specific sites for these rotations.

Applications for Professional Experience placement are to be made on the forms provided.  These forms are to be completed in their entirety and submitted to the Experiential Program Coordinator no later than the forms due date

All didactic coursework must be completed before going on Professional Experience Rotations.

Students will NOT be permitted to complete rotations at practice sites in which they have been employed prior to going on rotations.

  • Assignments for Fall Semester will be made and mailed in April
  • Assignments for Spring Semester will be made in October and mailed in November

Once you have been assigned a practice site, no change will be made unless a written request is made and approved by the Experiential Program Coordinator.  Students are NOT to contact sites about availability.  Any student doing so will be denied a change of site. Requests for change of practice site should be made only when there is a genuine need.

Special circumstances should be submitted in writing at the time you submit your forms.
