Students choosing a rotation with PharmCare/Deercreek could experience the following:
Typical day consulting:
- Travel to LTC home in area.
- Review charts and MAR
- Follow med pass with nursing
- Destroy meds
- Train and inservice nursing staff on current med therapy
- Formulary Management
- Cover State Title 19 Surveys
Typical day in LTC Pharmacy:
- Take orders phone/fax
- IV admixtures on Mon., Wed., and Fri.
- Attending JCAHO meeting and inservices
- Pain management with Hospice
- Tracking, ordering and billing Pharmacy and DME Inventory
- Oxygen and Ventilator consults
Typical day at Brookhaven Hospital:
- Fill carts Mon., Wed., and Fri. mornings
- Resolve in a positive manner conflicts between Nursing and Pharmacy
- Attend Medical Staff meetings
- Hold group drug/med education class 1 hour on Mon. afternoon.
- Formulary Management (new drug evaluations)
Also included on staff are two RN’s and one RPT that we could rotate with wound care, vent and Cpap setups.
