Students will be performing similar tasks daily, just at different locations. The hours do vary from day to day. There is travel involved. However, the pharmacist tries to meet the student at a more convenient location. The majority of the facilities are located within a one hour driving period.

Clients include homes for patients who can no longer care for themselves independently such as the elderly, mentally retarded or mentally ill. There homes range from group homes and assisted living homes to intensive care facilities (ICF).

A typical day includes numerous jobs including destroying medications, observing medication pass by nursing staff, and reviewing charts and medication administration records (MARs) in order to identify, resolve, and prevent all types of medication related problems, including medication errors. Consulting pharmacists are experts not only in drug knowledge, but also in the delivery and administration techniques of the medications. They provide in-services and train the nursing staff. Typically, they consult during their clients Title 19 Survey.
