This rotation is conducted in association with the Great Plains Family Practice Medical Residency program at Integris Baptist Medical Center (IBMC). IBMC is a large tertiary referral hospital (> 500 bed facility) with decentralized pharmacists and clinical specialists providing a high level of pharmaceutical care.

Clinical Exposure:

Students will round daily with a medical team. Students will be assigned responsibility for the pharmaceutical care needs of the patients admitted to the service. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to general pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetic, nutrition, and /or pain management consultations.

Patient Population:

Predominately adult but occasionally will include pediatric acutely ill inpatients.

Rotation Objectives:

As described in the Pharmacy Practice Manual.

Intern Activities:

  • Attendance on daily rounds.
  • Patient care meetings and discussions.
  • Provision of drug information and pharmaceutical care to the patients and members of the healthcare team.

Daily Schedule:

Normally, Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Additional requirements of participation at a free community clinic.

Presentations/Projects:

Students in their 3rd or 4th rotation with previous formal case presentations may be allowed to substitute other projects or professional writing for the two (2) formal cases normally required. Otherwise, requirements are as described in the Pharmacy Practice Manual, including journal presentations. medication histories, etc.
