Students on this rotation will be involved in the care of both internal medicine and cardiology patients via the following activities:

  • Review assigned patient charts on a daily basis to evaluate current therapy.
  • Attend rounds with physicians, medical students, and/or physician assistant students.
  • Provide recommendations either verbally on rounds or via written communication.
  • Provide appropriate patient education when requested.
  • Document all clinical interventions in a computer database.

Other activities or assignments during the rotation may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in topic discussions over a variety of disease states and pharmacotherapy related issues. The specific topics addressed will be determined by the needs of the student and issues that arise during the course of the rotation.
  • Present at least one formal case presentation on a patient being followed.
  • Present at least one journal article.
  • Lead a topic discussion for other pharmacy students (about 1.5-2 hours in length) over a disease state selected by the student.
  • Attend conferences, presentations, or other activities as these opportunities arise.
