Maxor National Pharmacy Services Corporation IV Solutions Clinical Rotation

The IV Solutions rotation through Maxor will give the student an opportunity to see a more specialized opportunity for the practice of pharmacy. IV Solutions is the home infusion division of the Maxor Corporation. Home infusion is the segment of pharmacy practice that provides specialized therapies, often infused or injected medications, to patients in their homes or in an alternate sight or location. Patients that are on service through IV Solutions are generally too sick to have oral medications, but are not sick enough to be kept in or admitted to a hospital setting. Some of the patients will have chronic illnesses that require that they be on specialized therapy for the remainder of their lives.
The rotation through IV Solutions will give the student the opportunity to perform hands on activities related to the home infusion pharmacy. These will include patient assessment for appropriateness of home therapy, learning abilities of the patient or their care giver(s), administration device selection, injectable medication stabilities in various solutions and environments, IV access options and what each type of access means for the patient and the pharmacy for maintaining the specific type of access, sterile product preparation and the supplies that are needed to administer the medication to the patient.
The IV Solutions rotation will also allow the student the opportunity to deal one on one with their patient, as well as coordinating the care of the patient through multiple providers such as the physician, the home care nurse, DME provider, caregivers and payers. There will be opportunities to go out to a patients home to assess the patient, visit in person with the physician, participate in the marketing activity related to home infusion pharmacy and interacting with the authorizations staff and billing staff to learn all aspects of this segment of the business.
As an added bonus, there will be the opportunity to participate in the pharmacy operations and consulting activities related to two pharmacies at local surgical hospitals that the IV Solutions division has responsibility for pharmacy operations. These pharmacies are pharmacy technician driven pharmacies that require supervision and consulting activities from the IV Solutions Pharmacist staff. There is also a Maxor Specialty pharmacy component that will be included as part of the IV Solutions Rotation.
