The MaxorPlus rotation will provide the opportunity to see how the clinical prior authorization process works and will give the student the opportunity to be a part of this process from reviewing data sent from the physician’s office to contacting the physician or their staff to gather more information.  The student will also be involved in cost saving initiatives and direct communication with patients or members and their physicians about utilization of appropriate lower cost medications when appropriate.

Part of the MaxorPlus rotation will also focus on areas of clinical activity that are more behind the scenes, such as report preparation and analysis, Plan performance reviews, data collection for cost savings calculations for the Plans and activities related to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics ( P & T ) committee and the associates meetings.  P & T activities will include opportunities such as therapeutic class reviews, decision for formulary development or medication Tier placement and new medications to market as well as new medications that become available as generics.  Other activities will also be explored as part of this rotation which include, but are not limited to, drug utilization review, polypharmacy activities and analysis, provider education, Plan design and development, periodic performance reports and education for support staff to make sure they are all knowledgeable in the areas which they perform.
