Mission: The mission of this clerkship is to develop clinical skills and to deliver pharmaceutical care to a variety of patients in the community setting. This clerkship is designed to enhance the student's understanding of the unique characteristics of the community patient population, various major disease states and to improve the student's ability to provide pharmaceutical care through thorough and effective communication.

Description: This medicine clerkship offers p harmaceutical care opportunities in a community pharmacy practice environment with the company May’s Drug Stores. During the course of this clerkship, each student will be responsible for attending scheduled health fairs and health promotion events where May’s Drug Warehouse is providing such services; exploring areas of the dispensing role; and providing drug therapy reviews and patient counseling in the community practice setting. Areas of expanded experience may include diabetes, asthma, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis, OTC counseling, and drug information. Students will also be required to conduct a community practice-related project in which they will be expected to create a business plan and rationale for such project. Students will complete journal clubs, case presentations, drug information updates and disease state discussions throughout the course of the clerkship.
