The Drug Therapy Monitoring Clinic (DTMC) is a physician referred clinic that manages asthma, diabetes (type 1 & 2), hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and oral anticoagulation through evidence-based medicine. While working in the DTMC, students will be exposed to a diverse population (age, race, gender) with sometimes numerous disease states.
The student will be expected to:
- Review patient history prior to appointment.
- Review all labs and assess any abnormal values.
- Interview patient and obtain information regarding diet, exercise medications and adverse effects.
- Provide patient education on DM, Hyperlipidemia, hypertension, asthma and anticoagulation.
- Make recommendations to preceptor relating to a specific patient.
- Attend patient education classes pertaining to DM and asthma.
- Present one journal evaluation and one patient case to clinical pharmacy staff.
- Show mastery of topics by completing a final exam.
