The Institutional Clinical Services Rotation is a four credit hour elective rotation based at Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. The course is designed to allow pharmacy students to take part in the clinical services offered by an inpatient hospital pharmacy.

The services in which the student may be involved include assisting in the performance of drug utilization evaluations, attending and participating in multidisciplinary hospital committees, taking part in the Food and Drug Administration's adverse drug reaction reporting program, and assisting in preparation of the Department of Pharmacy for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' (JCAHO) accreditation process. The student may have the opportunity to observe and participate in patient managements in the hospital’s anticoagulation clinic.

The student will also be expected to make medication dosage adjustment recommendations based on clinical lab values, participate in an antibiotic streamlining process, and to take part in an IV/PO switch program. The student may also be expected to participate in drug food interaction counseling.

During the rotation each student will be placed under the supervision of an approved preceptor. The student will devote a minimum of eight hours per day working as a pharmacist, but always under the supervision and direction of a preceptor. The student may also be involved in the routine activities of the pharmacy as well as with special projects assigned by the preceptor.
