Blood and Marrow Transplantation Learning Activities
This is a 1-month rotation designed to provide the student with advanced training and experience in the management of patients who have undergone blood or marrow transplantation (BMT) and their associated disease states. The primary goal of this rotation is to help the student develop the skills necessary to function as a patient-oriented pharmacist in a clinical role. The student will gain experience in the decision making process while actively participating as a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. In addition, the student will develop problem-solving skills by interviewing and assessing patients, monitoring and evaluating patients’ drug therapy, and providing drug education. Finally, this rotation will allow the student to be involved in the provision of continuity of care for BMT patients. Student responsibilities include attending clinical rounds, maintaining medication profiles, and providing disease state education and medication counseling, providing drug information services, and participating in daily topic discussions.
