Southwestern Oklahoma State University has one of the most respected Parks and Recreation Management Departments in the state. The SWOSU PRM Department offers two bachelor-level degrees and two graduate level degrees.

Program graduates typically seek employment in municipal, state, or federal parks, recreation, and leisure service agencies. Some career fields include park manager, park ranger/park law enforcement officer, search and rescue ranger, climbing ranger, forest fire fighter/smoke jumper, adventure program facilitator, climbing/mountaineering guide, river guide, SCUBA instructor, municipal parks and recreation program director, YMCA program director, military recreation director, corporate recreation/fitness director, sports team management, camp counselor, camp director, Fireand a variety of other parks and recreation related areas. Many program graduates seek employment in other areas such as standard law enforcement, fire fighting, and emergency medicine.

All courses offered are taught in small classes by instructors holding a Masters degree or higher. The Parks and Recreation Management faculty are active in state and national professional organizations. The faculty are represented in state and national research efforts and have presented papers and published articles on various topics.
