Jon Storey
Born and raised in Southeast Oklahoma. Graduated from Wright City High School in 1977. Attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1981 with a BS in Conservation. Returned to Southeastern Oklahoma State University and received a Secondary Education Certificate in 1986.
Worked in various fields until I was selected for a Biological Science Technician position at McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in 1991 where I was responsible for all the biological monitoring and studies conducted on the refuge. I also received basic fire training and was part of the Texas Chenier Plain fire crew.
In 1992 I transferred to Anahuac NWR on the Texas Coast where I was the Refuge Operations Specialist. It was here that I was sent to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) to receive Law Enforcement Training (Natural Resource Police Training and Refuge Officer Basic School). I served as the primary contact for all law enforcement activities on Anahuac NWR.
In 1997 I transferred to Big Muddy NWR in Missouri as the Refuge Operations Specialist. The Big Muddy NWR had pockets of land between Kansas City and St. Louis along the Missouri River. Again, I was the primary point of contact for all law enforcement matters regarding Big Muddy NWR.
I transferred to the Region 6 Regional Office in Lakewood, Colorado in 1999 where I assumed the duties of the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinator. Region 6 includes the states of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. Here I was responsible for the refuge law enforcement program which included basic and advanced training, policy, personnel issues, directing law enforcement activities, conducting task force operations, and various other issues for 115 officers. As the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinator I was part of a team that spent a lot of time in Washington D.C. where we worked on National policy and guidelines.
In 2003 I was selected for the position of Zone Officer for Oklahoma and North Texas. My duties include serving as liaison between refuges and the Regional office and the stations and the United States Attorney’s office. I’m stationed at Washita NWR where I regularly perform law enforcement duties, but I also travel throughout my zone, region, and the U.S. in performance of my duties.
