1921: The Oneita Camp Fire Girls planned to give their operetta, "A Shady Affair," in the Southwestern Normal Auditorium. Good music and a good program were promised for a small admission fee.
1940: Dr. L.J. Klotz, head of the Southwestern School of Pharmacy, was among the guest speakers at the Tulsa convention of the Oklahoma State Pharmaceutical Association. His topic was "Pharmacy in Western Oklahoma."
1967: Vernon McClendon, one of Southwestern's all-time baseball stars, died at the early age of 44. McClendon had been a stellar pitcher for the Bulldogs.
1973: Six Southwestern faculty members were named "Outstanding Educators of America" for 1973. They were: Dr. Grace Burcham and Dr. Ted Guffy, Division of Teacher Education and Psychology; Dr. Gary Wolgamott, Department of Biological Sciences; Dr. Charles Page, Division of Business Education; Dr. M.C. Weber, Department of Chemistry; and Fred Olds, Department of Art.
1981: Otis Delaporte, long-time coach and athletic director at Southwestern, died in his sleep. Basketball coach George Hauser, who went to check on Delaporte when he failed to show up for work, discovered the coach.
