1921: President Dr. J.B. Eskridge announced he would be leaving Southwestern to become president of the A& M college at Stillwater. The State Board of Education scheduled a meeting to select a new Southwestern president. The top two names mentioned were A.L. Richards, superintendent at Elk City Public Schools, and A.H. Burris, member of the state board and superintendent of Holdenville schools.
1940: The celebrated Works Project Administration Symphony Orchestra of Oklahoma City was booked for two engagements at Southwestern State College of Diversified Occupations.
1948: Ten Southwestern Bulldogs headed to Stillwater to compete for berths on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team. The event in Stillwater was a regional AAU tournament.
1975: President Al Harris announced the establishment of a $250,000 scholarship fund. Ninety five percent of the interest earned from the Southwestern State College Distinguished Freshman Fund would be used to provide financial assistance to outstanding high school graduates preparing to attend Southwestern.
1979: Three long-time Southwestern leaders announced they would retire. Dr. Walter L. Dickison, dean of the School of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health; Dr. Harold Massey, dean of the Graduate School; and Dr. Louis H. Morris, vice president for academic affairs, all announced they would retire June 30.
