1921: One of the largest crowds to ever gather in Weatherford was expected as Southwestern Normal School prepared to host the Southwestern Interscholastic Meet. Around 770 contestants were expected to participate in S.W.I.M. As a warm-up to the event, nine quartets, six glee clubs, three orchestras and one band were booked to provide entertainment.

1941: The play, "Little Women," was featured on campus. Cast members were chosen from the entire student body. For many of the selected cast members, this was their first appearance in a college play.

1942: President James B. Boren resigned to accept the presidency of Hardin Junior College at Wichita Falls.

1948: Dedication ceremonies for the Campbell Room in the library was held. The special room was named in honor of the Southwestern's first president, James Robert Campbell, who served from 1903-08.

1974: Dr. Allen G. Lane received a $7,290 grant to support a project called "Student Science Training for High Ability Secondary School Students."

1979: Dr. Ruby Drinkwater Gartrell, a member of the Southwestern administrative staff and faculty since 1956, announced she would retire in May.

1989: The School of Pharmacy celebrated its 50th anniversary.
