1938: Oklahoma Governor-Elect Leon C. Phillips paid his official visit to Southwestern State Teachers College. The visit was keeping with the new governor's program to make a personal inspection of all state institutions before taking office in January.
1959: It was announced Dr. Al Harris, superintendent of Clinton schools, would become the next president of Southwestern. The Southwestern graduate would take over for R.H. Burton, who announced he would retire on June 30, 1960, after serving as president for 15 years.
1967: The new college library was completed. The new 56,000 square foot building replaced the old library with its 9,172 square feet.
1976: Southwestern was authorized by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to offer two new programs, a master of business administration and a bachelor of science in computer science.
1983: Dr. Leonard Campbell called a meeting of the staff to discuss necessary cuts resulting from a shortfall in the state budget. Southwestern, known for its quality programs, had gained the reputation of "making a buck go farther than all the rest."
1991: Angel Martinez was in Weatherford signing the necessary papers for Southwestern's football team to participate in the Mexico City Aztec Bowl.
