Looking Back

February - Second Week

1911: Southwestern officials were still waiting on funds from the state legislature to equip the school's new building, which was built after Senator Williams secured an appropriation of $100,000 in 1909. The building was completed in 1910 but was practically idle because of no funds to equip the building.

1940: Marya Jo Smith of Altus was crowned "Sweetheart" of the college band.

1964: Otis Delaporte was selected to be Southwestern's athletic director and football coach. He succeeded Rankin Williams as athletic director and J.W. Cole as football coach.

1975: Margaret Renz Replogle of Oklahoma City contributed $38,400 to her alma mater for the purpose of establishing a permanent scholarship fund.

1985: The Southwestern Lady Bulldog basketball team was ranked #1 in the nation with a 24-0 record and was dominating statistics released by the District Nine office.
