February - Third Week
1940: Two dormitories were given names in honor of Dr. Dora Ann Stewart and A.H. Neff, pioneer faculty members at the college.
1951: Another important goal in Southwestern's march of progress was achieved with the announcement of the national accreditation of the School of Pharmacy.
1954: President R.H. Burton announced plans for a big building program. Possible buildings included a physical education building and student union as well as additions on the industrial arts and music buildings. Other plans included adding twenty-four additional rooms at Neff Hall and the establishment of an adequate infirmary. The registrar's office was to be enlarged and modernized.
1967: Eugene Hughes was selected as chairman of the English and Language Arts Division. He succeeded Dr. Gladys Bellamy who retired.
1971: Tragedy struck the Southwestern campus when two of its students-business student Gerald Williams and pharmacy student Nancy McCullough-were killed in a fiery two-car crash.
