1921: Lloyd Swearington agreed to become head of the Chemistry Department at Southwestern State Normal School during the 1921-22 academic year. The University of Oklahoma professor was making $1,400 and agreed to a $2,250 salary at Southwestern.
1935: Dr. C.W. Richards was removed as president of Southwestern State Teachers College by the State Board of Education. Three other Oklahoma teacher colleges' presidents were also removed from their positions.
1959: Southwestern State College was allocated $659,463, an increase of $86,774 over the previous year's allocation from the State Legislature.
1960: Dr. Edwin Vineyard was named chairman of the Division of Education. He succeeded Dr. Louis Morris who took another position.
1967: Mark Mouse, high school principal at Weatherford, was named as director of placement and field representative for Southwestern. Two Southwestern alumni, Lamar Crall and Billy D. Johnson, were also selected to become instructors in the Division of Business.
1977: Dr. Charles Rogers, Dr. Benny Hill and Dr. Ray Jones were making plans for a two-story observatory building. It was announced a 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector telescope would be put in the observatory.
