1951: Clinton High School graduate Donald Hamm was employed as a chemistry teacher in the Southwestern School of Pharmacy, according to Dean W.D. Strother. Hamm was hired to replace Jack Jeannes, who had resigned earlier in the year.
1958: The Southwestern baseball team finished second in the national baseball tournament. The Bulldogs were defeated by San Diego State in the finals.
1963: Southwestern received word of an increase in appropriations of $169,136. This would be used to increase the number of staff members and provide salary increases across campus.
1973: The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education approved three new degrees at Southwestern-the bachelor of arts in chemistry, applied physics and geography.
1980: Dr. Gary Wolgamott, chairman of the Division of Allied Health Sciences, was selected to serve on the Medical Technology Review Committee of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
2000: Southwestern Oklahoma State University's first endowed chair was established by Everett Dobson, 40, chairman and chief executive officer of Dobson Communications Corporation. Dobson gave $250,000 to the university to establish an endowed chair for the School of Business. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education matched the $250,000 for a total endowment of $500,000.
