March - Fourth Week
1931: Coach Rankin Williams and five members of the Bulldog track team left for Texas where they would participate in the University of Texas and Rice University relays at Austin and Houston, respectively.
1951: The Art Department hosted an exhibition of oil paintings by Mary Virginia Lee.
1958: Three Southwestern students were killed when an airplane crashed and burned near Colony. Jimmy Tisdal, Richard Jackson and Glenn Ray Castle were all killed in the crash.
1966: It was announced Southwestern had been allocated $3,403,454 for a building program during the next five years. Among the building projects were a library, Chemistry-Pharmacy-Physics Building, Physical Education Building and Arts and Sciences Building.
1979: Dr. Gary Gilliland was selected to be Dean of the School of Education. He replaced Dr. Earl Reynolds who was named Vice President for Academic Affairs. Also, Dr. Dan Dill was promoted to chairman of the Chemistry Department.
