1911: The Music Club of Southwestern planned a recital with piano and vocal selections rendered only by the most efficient students of the Music Department.
1929: Southwestern's new $100,000 library was dedicated. J.R. Campbell, Southwestern's first president and then an Oklahoma A & M professor, was to be guest of honor. The theme of the dedication program was "The Relationship of Southwestern State Teachers College to the Public Education Program of Oklahoma."
1941: Melba Unger of Corn was chosen queen of Southwestern's annual senior day. She planned to attend Southwestern Tech in the fall.
1951: For the first time in history, graduate study leading to a master's degree would be offered by Southwestern, according to President R. H. Burton.
1966: An increase of $1.50 per credit hour caused tuition to go from $5.25 per hour to $6.75.
1978: Four years of study are the normal time for individuals seeking college baccalaureate degrees. Linda Marshall Riddle walked across the graduation stage after completing her Bachelor of Arts in education degree in just two and one half years. She graduated Magna cum Laude.
1993: Dr. Ken Rose said the university was working with the Department of Human Services to develop an intensive early intervention program for youthful offenders. The program would be set up in the Foss Lake area.
