1931: The Southwestern college band under the direction of George M. Crisp closed the school year with a formal concert.
1941: The state legislature adjourned and appropriated $150,000 toward construction of a new building on campus. Southwestern needed another building after a 1939 July fire destroyed one building at Southwestern.
1948: A member of the faculty since 1909, Dr. Dora Ann Stewart ended her teaching career through retirement after 39 years of continuous service.
1951: Faculty and student employees of Southwestern State College signed the state-required oath of allegiance as routine business. Unlike many other colleges, there were no objections voiced at Southwestern concerning the "anti-subversive" pledge.
1980: Southwestern's Beta Beta Beta national professional biological sciences fraternity was named one of the eight top chapters in the nation for its 1978-79 activities.
1992: Southwestern Foundation directors, officers and campaign volunteers embarked on the second phase of a $2 million drive to benefit the university.
