1944: Southwestern Tech was awarded a citation for efficiency in helping the war effort, according to President G.S. Sanders.
1961: Southwestern student James C. Wear was found dead in his room. He apparently died of a heart attack while studying.
1973: The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court decision which had blocked students from forming two anti-war groups at Southwestern. Students had filed suit after the president and dean of students refused to allow students to form chapters of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War and Students Against the War.
1992: One more honor was added to the ever-expanding resume of President Joe Anna Hibler. She was one of three higher education leaders inducted into the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame.
1999: Golfer Kala Freeman of Woodward became the first SWOSU athlete or team of any sport to compete in a NCAA national tournament. Southwestern made the move from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 1995 and became members of the Lone Star Conference in 1997.
