1951: Books from the private collection of the late Lula Vrooman were donated to the Southwestern library, according to head librarian Ernest Thomas. The collection included the only known complete set of Southwestern yearbooks. Vrooman had been a long-time faculty member at Southwestern.

1956: New bids were being accepted for the construction of a new health and physical education building. The first bids were all rejected because they were far above the estimated cost.

1961: The news was not good for college students in Oklahoma. Fees at Southwestern were going up 75 cents from $4.50 to $5.25 per semester hour.

1967: Two Southwestern students were killed in separate car wrecks. Jack Ray Condren, a freshman pre-pharmacy student from Guymon, was killed in an accident near Putnam. James Chad Vandeventer, a junior business administration student from Granite, died in a one-car crash on Highway 183 just north of Cordell.

1973: Southwestern was one of seven colleges chosen to begin a research project on the Mustang II, manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Dr. Roger Egerton's marketing research class was asked to study the pros and cons of the car. At the end of the program, a panel of marketing experts was scheduled to review all of the schools' projects and select the best one.

1999: Southwestern Oklahoma State University senior Rodney Coulter of Hinton received a $1,000 scholarship from both the state organization and northwest district of The Oklahoma Society of Accountants.
