1951: Five Southwestern faculty members were elected to offices at the state Oklahoma Education Association convention. Elected were: Glen Sorder, president of the Oklahoma College Teachers of Education; Dr. Gladys Bellamy, president of the Oklahoma Council of English Teachers; Virgil Trucks, secretary of the OCET; Cedric Crink, vice president of the executive committee of the Oklahoma Speech Association; and Myrtle Kelly, chairperson of the section committee of the OSA.
1973: Registrar Don Graves resigned to accept a position as superintendent of schools in Yukon.
1974: A new organization-Photography Club-was formed. The organization was open to all Weatherford area photography buffs.
1978: Southwestern received a fourth bomb threat during a five-week period. The threat was made at the Student Union. All four threats turned out to be hoaxes.
1999: Robert Cialdini, author of "Influence: Science and Practice," was a guest speaker as part of the Panorama series at Southwestern.
2000: Southwestern's School of Education was preparing for its 2001 accreditation review by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
