1927: E.E. Brown was named Southwestern's new president after J.W. Turner tendered his resignation. Turner had resigned on a Tuesday and, by Friday of the same week, the State Board of Education had named Brown to the position.
1941: Actual construction on a new administration building for Southwestern Tech was scheduled to start very soon, according to State Senator L.E. (Polly) Wheeler. Southwestern had been without an administration building since the old one burned in July, 1939.
1956: Students were stunned when 21-year-old Larry Reid of Alfalfa died because of a busted blood vessel leading to the brain. Reid was a junior at Southwestern.
1973: The Southwestern Continuing Education Program was offering five courses for retired and semi-retired persons. The courses were Social Security and Medicare, Arts and Crafts, Photography, Woodworking and Crocheting.
1974: Three new members were inducted into Southwestern's Sports Hall of Fame. Arnold (Swede) Umbach of Auburn, Alabama; Orville Steve England of Cantonment, Florida; and Labron Harris Sr. of Stillwater were honored.
1981: Dr. Joe Anna Hibler, chairperson of the Administration and Business Education Department, was named dean of the School of Business. She succeeded Dr. Roger Egerton, who requested a return to full-time teaching.
