October - Release 2
1931: "The doors of college via Model T's" was a possible slogan for many Southwesterners because of the presence of many tin or $10 types around town. Few of the fortunate students were blessed with sufficient financial standing for upkeep of their limousines, but with the aid of a friend or two and an occasional bonus from home, most of the rattles were maintained.
1941: Dorothy Holden, sophomore from Granite, was named the 1941 Football Queen. Chosen by the football team, Holden was crowned at the Tech-Oklahoma City University football game and reigned over homecoming activities.
1961: The School of Pharmacy celebrated at homecoming with a banquet in honor of the school's 20th anniversary.
1966: A driverless semi-trailer truck rolled away from the loading dock of the cafeteria. The truck slipped through the busy intersection of State and College streets before crashing into a house. Two college students-James Johnson and Steve Hellwege-were inside the rooming house at the time but were unhurt.
1974: Three Southwestern professors-Dr. Pedro Huerta, Dr. James Lovell and Dr. Dennis Messmer-were notified they each received $1,000 stipends from the Dansforth Foundation to support a project exposing high school and college students to career opportunities.
1980: Southwestern's 160-member marching band, directed by Dr. James Jurrens, performed at halftime of the Atlanta Falcons-New Orleans Saints National Football League game in New Orleans.
