1935: Southwestern received a $352,727 federal grant for the construction of dormitories. Plans called for a girl's dormitory (Stewart Hall) on the southeast corner of the campus and a boy's dormitory (Neff Hall) at the southwest corner.
1941: Rankin Williams, director of athletics at Southwestern Tech, was elected president of the Oklahoma Amateur Athletic Union. He was also elected a delegate to the AAU convention in Philadelphia and the Pan American games convention in New York City.
1956: Dr. Kirk E. Naylor became dean of instruction and Dr. Louis Morris was named head of the Education Department.
1962: Burglars broke into the student center, wrecked a safe and left unobserved. The burglars escaped with approximately $1,332 in cash and checks.
1970: Plans for a nursing degree program were revealed. Helen C. Ferguson was named as the first director of nursing.
1973: Twenty-seven members of Kappa Psi pharmacy fraternity went to Oklahoma City Children's Hospital to donate blood to help Donna Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Fowler of Weatherford. Donna had open-heart surgery.
1978: A gift of $10,000 from Homer N. Wheeler of Amarillo, Texas, established the Wheeler Brothers and Sisters Scholarship Fund. Income from the endowment provided tuition scholarships for Southwestern students.
1980: Former President R.H. Burton died in Weatherford at the age of 86. Burton served as president from 1945 until 1960.
